WonderVase portable flower holder
Add a touch of humanity to your hotel
The WonderVase allows you to conveniently display
flowers anywhere you choose.
It folds flat for packing, and its lightweight portability makes it ideal for
traveler seeking to add a touch of color and character to an
otherwise drab hotel room.
The Wondervase lies flat for
packing, weighs next to nothing, and opens up to create an
attractive vase for flowers.
Available in three sizes, it
is an inexpensive and thoughtful gift for yourself and other
frequent travelers in your life.
If you're like me, you spend
too much of your life traveling from city to city, and too many
nights in strange hotel rooms. Apart from a very few (and
very expensive) hotels, the rooms are lifeless, sterile, and
generic, and completely devoid of any personal customization.
Some people combat this by
traveling with a framed photo of their family. Others just
try and ignore the de-humanizing aspects of living in ever
changing hotel rooms.
Sometimes I've been places
where I or a traveling companion have been given flowers, but
what can we do with them when we get them back to our hotel
room? I've tried various tactics, even standing them in
the coffee jug, but none have been particularly successful.
And so I was delighted to
see the Wondervase.
A portable traveling vase
for flowers? Whatever will they think of next!
But, as improbable as this
concept is, the actual reality is both positive and practical.
The Wondervase is made out of a clear plastic that looks like
glass when filled with water.
To use the Wondervase, you
simply add water to it and then add flowers, same as you would
with a regular glass vase. What's that? No flowers?
That's easily solved too! You can go online to the
tulip page at
ProFlowers and have them delivered to your room.
Then, when you're traveling
empty the vase, leave the flowers for the maid, press the vase flat and pack it in your suitcase.
The Wondervases come in
three different sizes. The small vase measures about 4" in
diameter when filled with water and stands 8" tall. It
weighs an almost imperceptible ½ oz. This can hold one
single flower without looking too empty, but could also fit a reasonable
The medium vase is 6" in
diameter and 11" tall, and the large vase is 8"x13" - big enough
for a very generous assortment of flowers to fill your room with
freshness, lovely smells, and gorgeous color.
The plastic is a
thermo-setting plastic. You can heat it up with hot water
to make it soft, and then shape it to a certain extent.
Run it under cold water and it retains its shape. Of
course, the pressure of the water when you fill it tends to
smooth out anything too extreme in the form of shaping, but it
can help you add a small amount of extra personality to the vase
if you're so inclined. Then, when seeking to pack it for
travel, run it in hot water, smooth it out, and pack it into
The plastic seems strong and
durable, and unlikely to puncture or tear. You should be
able to realistically expect a reasonable amount of life from
Some of the vases are clear
in color and others have a colored base while the plastic sides
remain clear. Due to
how light reflects off the colored base, this gives the
whole vase a subtle tint.
Where to Buy
The Wondervase is available
through its own
but I'm not sure where it can be found now.
Sometimes a very small thing
can make all the difference to one's state of mood and mind, and
the Wondervase is a good example of such an item.
Great if you're a frequent
traveler, or even if you're not. And at low prices, it won't cost an arm and a leg, either as a small
indulgence for yourself, or as a gift for a friend.
